The STAR Method

Structure achievements for maximum impact

The STAR Method for Achievements

STAR is a framework for structuring your accomplishments clearly and compellingly.

STAR Components

  • Situation: The context or challenge
  • Task: Your responsibility
  • Action: What you did
  • Result: The measurable outcome

Example Transformation

Before (Duty):

"Responsible for managing social media accounts"

After (STAR Achievement):

"Grew Instagram following from 5K to 50K in 8 months by implementing data-driven content strategy, resulting in 300% increase in website referral traffic"

Practice Exercise

For each job on your resume, ask yourself:

  1. What problems did I solve?
  2. What did I improve or create?
  3. What results can I quantify?
  4. What would be different if I hadn't done this work?
